Pupils get a taste of recruitment

Pupils get a taste of recruitment A group of year 11’s were given an insight into the job recruitment process at Kaskenmoor school this week when they were interviewed by two Directors from Positive Steps Oldham.

The role was ‘exhibition support worker’ for Connexions annual Your Choice Exhibition. Over 30 pupils applied and were interviewed for the role, which involves assisting the Connexions service with delivering the careers event which takes place at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on November 7th from 2.30pm-7.00pm.

The role entails helping exhibitors set up for the exhibition, collecting questionnaires, and generally helping parents and pupils find their way around the exhibition.

“The initial idea was that students would have to formally apply for this role, and that the best applicants would be interviewed. However, the standard of applications was so high that we ended up interviewing them all.” Explains Connexions Director, Steve Murphy.

“It’s great experience for young people to go through the job application process, particularly as they are at a time in their school life where they may need to start applying for jobs, college places, or training courses.”

Although the standard was high eventually two pupils were chosen for the role, Adam Longley and Natalie Ward, aged 15.

The Your Choice Exhibition is an annual careers exhibition, funded by Connexions and attended by various local employers and further education providers for parents and year 11 pupils.
